Got a Samsung Galaxy Captivate i897 device? Good news for you, as you can now update it to Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 using Slim ROM. As you’d know, it’s a custom ROM update based on JellyBean AOSP source and is not the official update. However, its perhaps the only way to get Jelly Bean on Captivate at the moment, so you won’t want to miss out on this one.
WARNING: Since this is an initial release of Slim ROM, you may encounter some bugs and performance issues. We recommend you backup all your important data before proceeding. Continue at your own risk.
Tutorial: Installing JellyBean 4.1.1 on Captivate i897 with Slim Bean 1.0
Before you begin:
- Backup your data.
- Make sure that battery level of your device is, at least, above 40%.
Step 1: Download I897_1.0.zip JB 4.1.1 ROM for Captivate.
Step 2: Copy the downloaded zip file to your device. You can connect your device to the computer and copy the file onto it.
Step 3: Now disconnect your device from PC and switch it off.
Step 4: Put Captivate in Recovery mode:
- Press & hold volume up and volume down buttons
- Press the Power button while holding both volume keys
- Your device will now enter the recovery mode
- Use volume up and volume down keys to navigate and Power button to select.
Step 5: In recovery mode, first clear the device cache. To do this, use the option “Wipe data/factory reset” and then select “Wipe Cache partition” option.
Step 6: Make sure all the lag fixes are disabled. This is very important.
Step 7: Select the option “install zip from sd card”, then select “choose zip from sd card”.
Step 8: Now the zip file will get installed, wait for installation to complete.
Step 9: When installation is complete, go back to main screen in recovery mode and select the option “reboot system now”.
Step 10: This will install Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean on Captivate i897. Enjoy!

So all i have to do is follow these directions and ill have jellybean? Just like that? my device is already rooted by the former user and I’m running an older rom called fusion i believe, but I hope once i do these steps everything works out fine. I never done this before but i do know how to follow directions and if something messes up then it will be solely my blame but i will go ahead and give it a try (yolo) lol..
I would wait on Jelly Bean. I’ve tried it several times according to the installation documentation and it soft bricks every time. It’s still just a 1.0 so…just wait. If anything, use the SlimICS.
