Google released Android 4.2.2 JDQ39 for Nexus devices earlier this week. Now the AOSP based custom ROM can get you Android 4.2.2 on HTC One X (endeavoru) smartphone. The custom ROM can be downloaded and installed on your phone. However, you will need to unlock HTC One X bootloader first. Here’s the step by step tutorial that will guide you through the process:
How to Install Android 4.2.2 on HTC One X (Endeavoru)
Before you Begin, take care of following:
- You need to have Android SDK and Fastboot setup on your PC.
- Backup your important data including contacts, SMS / MMS and other data
- Enable Enable USB Debugging on your device.
- Unlock HTC One X Bootloader.
Step 1: Download the latest ROM from here: endeavoru_42/latest/. Currently latest version is rc16.zip.
Step 2: Extract the downloaded zip file to get boot.img file.
Step 3: Copy the boot.img file in platform-tools directory inside the android-sdk-windows directory.
android-sdk-windows is the directory where you have Android SDK installed / extracted. If you cannot find platform-tools directory in it, create it.
Step 4: Download the latest GApps zip file.
Step 5: Copy the downloaded ROM (rc16.zip) and GApps zip files on to the root of your SD card.
Step 6: Boot your device in download mode. To do this:
- Switch off your device
- Press & hold Volume down + Power buttons to switch the device on
- Select Fastboot option to enter download mode
Step 7: Now navigate to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory and launch Command Prompt there. You can also launch Command Prompt from Run in Windows and then execute following commands to get to platform-tools directory:
Step 8: After launching Command Prompt in platform tools directory, execute following commands one by one:
fastboot flash boot boot.img <— command to flash custom ROM
fastboot reboot <— command to reboot your device
Step 9: Now on your device select Bootloader and then select Recovery.
You should now be in CWM recovery mode on HTC One X.
Step 10: Now select “wipe data/factory reset” option. When it asks for confirmation, select “Yes” to confirm data wipe process. Then navigate back to main recovery screen.
Step 11: Now you will install the ROM zip file that you placed to SD card of your device. Follow these steps:
- Select option “install zip from sdcard”
- Then select “choose zip from sdcard”
- Now select the zip file that you want to install (the file that you copied onto the SD card)
- When it asks for confirmation, select “Yes” to start installation
The custom ROM installation will now begin. Wait for it till its complete.
Step 12: Repeat step 11 and select GApps zip file (instead of ROM) to install Google Apps now.
Step 13: After installation is complete, navigate back to main recovery screen and select “reboot system now” option to reboot your device.
That’s it! You should now have Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 on HTC One X installed successfully.
