Google rolled out Android 4.2.1 JOP40D OTA update to newer Nexus devices yesterday. And now the Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 for Galaxy Nexus I9250 is available for download and can be flashed on takju devices right now. If you do not want to wait for the OTA update, you can follow step by step guide below to manually update Galaxy Nexus to 4.2.1 Android.
Please note that this update is only for Galaxy Nexus takju devices and should not be tried on other devices. Here is the direct download link and step by step guide on how to install the update:
Manually Update to Android 4.2.1 JOP40D on Galaxy Nexus I9250 Takju
The steps are very much the same for rooted and unrooted Galaxy Nexus devices. The only difference is with the Recovery mode. To install Android 4.2.1 on rooted devices, you will have to use CWM Recovery while for unrooted devices, you will use stock Recovery. Here’s the guide:
Before you Begin:
Backup all your important data as you may lose it during the process.
Warning: Continue at your own risk, we will not be responsible if anything goes wrong.
Step 1: Download Android 4.2.1 for Galaxy Nexus: signed-takju-JOP40D-from-JOP40C.1d62212b.zip
Step 2: Rename the downloaded zip file to “update.zip”.
Step 3: Copy the “update.zip” file on root of your device’s SD card.
Step 4: Boot Galaxy Nexus in Recovery mode. To do this:
- Switch your device phone
- Press & hold Volume down + Volume up + Power buttons together
- Leave the buttons when you see “Start” on top of device’s screen
- Scroll up to “Recovery” option using Volume buttons
- Press Power button to select “Recovery”
- Now you will see the exclamation mark on screen. Press & hold Volume up + Power buttons to get into the recovery mode
Step 5: In Recovery mode, select “update from SD card” option and then select the update.zip file that you placed on SD card in step 3.
That’s it! You now have successfully updated to Galaxy Nexus 4.2.1 JOP40D OTA firmware update. Enjoy!
